Malawi: The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) is today leading the nation in commemorating this year’s World Competition Day, an annual event that falls on December 5.

To observe the day, the commission will hold a consumer parade from College of Medicine in Blantyre to Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds and activities include traditional dances from Chichiri Prison Troupe, poetry and drama.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Henry Mussa, is expected to preside over the event.

Discussion Forum on status of Competition in Nepal in the honor of World Competition Day

SAWTEE in association with Lawyers’ Academy Committee, Nepal Bar Association (NBA) and Society of Economic Journalists of Nepal (SEJON) organized a discussion forum on “Status of Competition in Nepal” on 5 December 2011 to mark the World Competition Day. The World Competition Day is celebrated on 5 December every year to mark the adoption by the United Nations of the Set of Multilaterally Agreed Equitable Principles and Rules for the Control of Restrictive Business Practices. This year the World Competition Day was marked with the theme ‘Cartels and their harmful effects’

Zambia Commemorates World Competition Day

This day was commemorated in form of a press briefing. It was jointly organised by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and CUTS International Lusaka. CCPC and CUTS decided to date the media from an understanding that these are stakeholders that mold the opinion of citizens; and a mindset molded on pro-competition reforms and anti-cartels, is the recipe that Zambia needs. Among the media institutions represented included Zambia National Broadcasting Cooperation, Muvi TV, Radio-Phoenix, Joy FM, QFM, 5FM Zambia Daily Mail and Times of Zambia.
